Checklist

Google AI Overviews optimization checklist

A conservative checklist for improving eligibility and usefulness in Google Search and AI-powered search features.

  • There is no separate AI Overviews shortcut.
  • Follow Google Search essentials and make pages helpful, crawlable, and well structured.
  • Use schema only when it matches visible content.

Technical checklist

Make the page reachable, indexable, mobile-friendly, fast enough for users, and represented in sitemap and internal links. Avoid hiding core content behind client-only rendering when the page is meant to be cited.

  • Valid status code
  • Canonical URL
  • Descriptive title and meta description
  • Readable HTML body
  • Relevant internal links

Content checklist

The page should clearly answer the search intent and support claims with verifiable facts. For complex topics, include definitions, steps, comparisons, limitations, and references.

Structured data checklist

Use Organization, WebSite, BreadcrumbList, Article, FAQPage, Product, or SoftwareApplication schema only where the visible page supports those fields.

FAQ

Can schema force inclusion in AI Overviews?

No. Schema helps machines understand the page, but it does not guarantee inclusion or ranking.
